General Functional Requirement of GMDSS


Let us get an insight on the General Functional requirements on the GMDSS Equipment on board the ships. 

The blogger of this article, with his experience of over two decades as a radio officer and also a GMDSS Radio surveyor for various classification societies in India - has in the recent past has come across various instances during surveys on board that the competence level of on board personnel was very minimal with respect to the above subject.   8. Transmission/reception of general radiocommunications to and from shore-based radio systems or networks; and
  9. Transmission/reception of bridge-to-bridge communications.
